Northern Peru
I haven't done a post of recs from my 2013 trip to Cusco & Machu Picchu. But, most people can figure that route out, its been beaten to death. This post is about my trip to Peru's Amazon rainforest area.
Here's some recs from my 2022 trip to some of Northern Peru's surfing areas.
Huanchaco: Google Maps link here
- Chances are, you are coming here for surfing. I had mixed feelings on the place and the water is possibly polluted, but the locals were lovely beyond belief.
- Take surf lessons (and have a beer) with my friend Alejandro
- Stay near My Friend hostel so you are closer to 'the action' if you can call it that :)
- Visit the local mercado
- Eat at:
- Mi Casa Thai restaurant - best food in town, no menu, rooftop, open at random
- Caribe for ceviche
- My Friend restaurant
- El Anzuelo
- De RumiƱahui Pizzeria
Chicama: the longest left wave in the world. Not much in the town, but it is a wild place.
Lima:
- I wasn't there too long, so don't have many recs...some Google Maps tags here.
- Stay in Barranco neighborhood
- Eat at:
- Isolina
- Cala
- Rafael and/or Siete, both fab restaurants by the same chef
- Arlotia
- Walk around the Bridge of Sighs Area
- Walk up El Malecon along the coast to El Parque del Amor
