South Africa

CapeTown:

  • Bo Kap houses - they are brightly colored houses up a little hill in the city - very beautiful
  • Table Mountain - we took the tram but I am sure the hike up is also nice
  • Camps Bay - posh beach area with Miami like restaurants - great people watching, its like The Hills tv show there - we took the hop on hop off bus there, there are a lot of stops - or you can take a cab
  • Food:   we had amazing food there - I tried ostrich and kudu (an antelope that was delicious, sorry little guy) at a place called Aubergine Restaurant.    There are also restaurants on Long Street that are actually nice despite the fact that the street is like Bourbon street.
  • There's a big market in the middle of town by Long Street - good for souvenirs.
  • Kloof street has really cute cafes - a little hipster feeling and good restaurants - we ate at Kloof Street House outside and it was so amazing: http://www.eatout.co.za/article/z-kloof-street-cape-towns-favourite-gourmet-grazing/
  • Bree street also has good restaurants:  http://www.eatout.co.za/article/bree-street-gourmet-zone/
  • There is one street of boutiques and vintage shops where I got some cute things - i cant remember, but just walk around the city and you will see so many cool places
  • Old Biscuit Mill - like an outdoor Chelsea Market  - also the area around it is up and coming and def work checking out
  • I didn't go to Stellenbosch but its where all the vineyards are - I am sure you will want to check out this region
  • There are a lot of beach areas in addition to Camps Bay - the water is pretty freezing but its all so beautiful there
  • We stayed here: http://www.ikhayasafari.co.za/  - can do better than this BUT it was a perfect area to stay - some cute restaurants and bars, view of Table Mountain and right near the gardens

Cape Peninsula:

  • We got a tour with this company: http://www.discoverytours.co.za/daytours.htm .  We had a private driver that drove us all around the beautiful land on the cape and we saw ostriches, babboons , lots of antelopes, then went to one nice winery .  I am not big on tours but he covered so much area and we saw a ton.
  • We also saw penguins on the tour at Boulders Beach and the cutest animal on the planet called a dassie

JoBerg:

  • -The only reason I'd say to be here is to see Soweto - it is where Nelson Mandela grew up and the culture is amazing to see.
  • We took a private tour with just one woman who had connections with a school in one of the really poor areas - we got to see it and see how they lived and the inside of their tin shacks...quite eye opening - the tour was through Felleng tours.

Safari:

  • We didn't have much time so did a safari in Pilanesburg - I am sure you can find much better than this, so I don't recommend
