Portugal
I spent all of my time in Lisbon, because it is incredible. I don't have much advice on Portugal beyond Lisbon, but here are my recs for when you are there!
Things to Do:
- Caiscais beach - popular local beach, worth a day trip out of Lisbon
- Barrio Alto - beautiful, fun neighborhood full of cobblestones and bars
- Alfama - authentic old part of town. One of my favorite areas, you can walk around and see the old people leaning out the window talking to each other. There's also a lot of street art. In general, just walk all through Lisbon because theres amazing buildings, art, people everywhere
- Sintra - magical town! We walked from the train station all the way to the top, which was long but worth it. So many beautiful castles and things to see. Make sure to see the crazy staircases and underground walkways here
- Nightlife - is nonstop in Lisbon. Definitely make a point to go out a couple of nights because people know how to have a great time. Park was one that was super cool, at the top of a parking garage
- The Pink Street - the little road is actually painted pink, have dinner and drinks here, a hip spot. if you like sardines/fish, there are some specialty restaurants here
- Tram car - there is one touristy tram route that takes you all throughout the city, definitely worth it, you get to see everything
- Flea market - one of the best i have been to
- Fado - go to a restaurant where they sing live fado , traditional Portuguese music
- Gorgeous views here
- I also went to the aquarium there. Definitely not a must do on a short trip, but its a really nice one.
Eating/Drinking:
- Belem egg tarts - even if there is a line, wait. They are SO good I still dream about them. also, Belem is a cool neighborhood, so walk around there. There's a cool area of warehouses with stores inside, I can't find the name of it though (it could be this)
- Cafe Ramiro- one of the most fun nights of my entire life, rowdy dinner with strangers and excellent food (if you like steak, get the steak sandwich!)
- Make sure to drink some vinho verde!
- Cool restaurant we went to, randomly pharmacy themed, but also has a great view and area where people hang out and play music
