Reykjavik:
Excursions:
- Blue Lagoon! Obviously gotta do this. It is a well organized complex and the water is delightful.
- Northern Lights tour: worth it if it is in 'season'. Our April 15th tour was the last of the season. No guarantee to see the lights, so you could end up standing in a freezing field at midnight and see nothing. But if you do, worth it! We did it through Gray Line, but I am sure there are plenty others that are good. The whole tour is like five hours from 8:30 pm - 2 am.
- We did a whale watching tour with Elding. It was more intense than we thought (cold and wet and rough seas!) and we saw no whales, but it was still cool to be out on the water. A lot of people were seasick so beware!
General:
- Super tourist friendly country!
- FlyBus (though Reykjavik Excursions) is your best bet for all transportation - to and from aiport, to and from Blue Lagoon, etc. They are cheap and efficient, but you will be on a big tour bus. You can pay extra to be picked up from hotel instead of their bus station. We did this. They have frequent buses going everywhere
- It is SO expensive there. A fish and chips dish is like $20. Budget more money than you expect :)
- Try the weird birch liqueur
